The main purpose of social bookmarking is to allow the opportunity to be able to save certain web pages that are used more often than others or are more important. It makes it easier to locate certain web pages quicker. People discuss different social bookmarking websites and tools on blogs or their own personal website to provide information to others. "Almost any topic of interest can be found through social bookmarking. Their search engine tool allows you to type in what your looking for and have it instantly before you" (Breinling). The issue with search engines is that it pulls up thousands of different web pages that are not helpful or useful in many ways. Social Bookmarking lets you specifically focus on exactly what you want to see or view. New information on these web pages provides you with all of the current events that your looking for.
Social Bookmarking relates to emerging technology in various different ways. In emerging technology we are always striving for newer and quicker ways to navigate the internet. Social bookmarking not only makes things quicker to locate specific things, it also provides up to date, new information from the latest topics. "If you're looking for some late breaking news about your favorite actor, search engines may not have the most current topic on top, but you'll find it right on top in social news sites" (Breinling). Social Bookmarking enhances the way we use the internet meaning that instead of the internet providing tons of useless information, we can control the way we want to use it. Emerging Technology is all about finding better ways to use the internet and social bookmarking helps provide that opportunity.
Something interesting I learned from this current event article is that social bookmarking offer different opportunities to vote on articles or links if people enjoy using them. "Social news and social bookmarking sites let you specifically focus on exactly what you want to see. Because new stuff is added all the time, you're going to find the most current information as well as the most popular right on top. Many of these sites offer viewers the opportunity to vote on articles and links" (Breinling). Social bookmarking can be discussed about for days because of how its unique structure is able to allow others to benefit from it.
